Cynicus, 1899. 12.5 x 18.5" album, half red leather/buckram binding with some decoration and the artist's name in gilt on the front panel. With a photograph of the author on the front pastedown inscribed "Very Sincerely Yours Cynicus. 22nd April 1899." Contains end papers and 52 pages of thick card with 112 original paintings for postcards adhered to them, all but one signed by the artist and all titled by him. The first 8 pages have 1 illustration per page c. 8 x 14.5". The 44 pages following have 2 paintings on each page, c.8.5 x 6.4". Binding is quite clean and bright with a bit of rubbing to the edges. End papers spotted. The contents are in very nice condition. Clearly acid free materials have been used throughout as there is hardly any spotting at all and just a few of the paintings have minor light marks which could well have originated from handling when they were being stuck into the album. £3500.007560. Then he asks for help in finding a copy of "..Dr Giles' two vols on Thomas a Becket....". The substantial post script refers to the "..rash letter I had written on Sara Coleridge.
